Impossible to win

I have put so much of my money into this app and have realized that we are getting taken advantage of. At first I just thought that the better I got at this game, the more money I would make, but that has been proven wrong. I always finishin the top 10 and I still am not winning money. Skills is taking a huge cut and makes it impossible to actually win more than you put in. Either way you look at it, skills takes 33.333% of your winning or 16.66666% of the total money in each game. That’s too much. Even if you win the majority of your games, after you figure in the huge cut that skills takes, you can’t win. Anyone else agree?

  • Hey @fflipp2,

I understand that you feel 16% is too much, but honestly, it's not a lot for a cash play game. There are significant expenses that need to be covered to enable cash play and at lower rake would likely be unsustainable.

Do note, that we have many players making large sums of money, so it certainly is possible.

The fact still remains, the more games a player plays, the more money that player is paying to play those games. I have played pool for days on end and when a percentage is being took off every game, a player has to win 7 out of every 10 games they play. Possible, yes, probable, not even close. The only way that would work is if matches were matched in order rather than putting the best players against the best. The only way I will put another dollar in this game is if I had to pay a flat fee for my membership because when it’s set up the way that it is now, the percentage taken off the top of every game is always going to be the winner.
  • Hey @fflipp2,

That's fair enough. If it doesn't work for you, best not to pay, I agree.

Though, there is no way we could operate on a fixed fee, our expenses need to be covered.

  • I agree that it's impossible to win. I think we should be able to play the next opponent versus waiting forever to be matched up. It's set up to take a major cut of your winnings and if you miraculously win 7-10 out of the games you play, you bet your last bottom dollar that you won't the next because they will match you with someone who will steamroll you. I can't tell you how many times that I've been on a roll thinking I've got the hang of it now only to get weird bounces or rolls during the game to being matched with someone incredibly difficult to beat. I feel like I'm spinning my wheels with this game. I need a break from it. The next move is eeleting it completely from my phone.
  • Hey @nutznosalt,

Do understand that neither we or Skillz profit from wins or losses, the outcome of a match has no influence on our profit, we only take rake.

Our physics engine is a real simulation. We don't (can't) and never will influence any aspect of any shots in any way. Any weird bounces or rolls are purely the result of the simulation.

I get that it frustrates you, but if you win many matches in a row your skill rank will rise. Players will be matches based on their skill ranks. Putting beginners against pros would be unfair. This is how nearly all sports and competitions work.

  • If the simulation is supposed to be like real pool then it has failed because the scratches I have witnessed with the strength that I hit does not happen in real life pool and I've been playing pool for over 20 years now. I beg to differ with beginners vs. pros. I don't see teams avoiding the Cleveland Browns just because they have not won any games. It's the nature of the game and challenges those that aren't that good to improve on their game. That's what the practice rounds should be for, the beginners. Once they step into playing for cash, they should be considered a pro with no holds barred. The casinos don't hold back because someone is a beginner at gambling. I appreciate where your coming from with being unfair but I disagree. Whatever the case may be, I have the choice not to play, which I have chosen. More people are going to conitnue to get frustrated with the long waits to play a match.
